Not Even Death

The Mermaid and the Eternal Bond — not even death can dissolve the bond between a father and his child.

After the shipwreck came the true tragedy. He could not hold him in his arms: the raging sea devoured him in seconds, and there was nothing he could do to stop it.

When he awoke, alone on that deserted shore, he did not collapse. He clung to hope and searched for his son without rest, until he lost all sense of time and of the world around him.

Countless seasons passed, the universe was destroyed and reborn, and still his son did not appear. After many years, exhausted and without the strength to keep searching, he began to weep. Perhaps it was the saddest, most heartbreaking cry the ocean had ever heard.

A small mermaid trembled as she heard the lament and drew near, curious to see what creature could weep in such desperate sorrow. When the shadow of what had once been a proud father told her his story, the mermaid offered to search for his son in the depths of the sea.

Time passed, and at last the little mermaid returned with the child’s remains cradled in her delicate hands. The father, deeply moved, said to her:

—You have reunited what was lost, and our gratitude will be eternal.

Then father and son were finally able to set out together on the journey into the unknown. And together, at last, they entered the arms of eternity.
